I think the superiority in songwriting that they had over other artists at the time is largely the cause of Beatlemania, to use the term. Although what they were writing in 1963 isn't comparable to what they were writing a few years later, they always pushed the boundaries - which set them apart from other groups that maybe could sing almost as well and make the girls go wild just as much.
